Sorry to bother you, but you are the only blog I read where they talk about cacti and the like. One of my cacti has gone all soft and limp - what should I do? It was next to a radiator over winter, so I moved it, but then I thought maybe it was too dark, so I've just moved it to a brighter spot. Is my cactus dead, or is there hope? Any advice would be gratefully accepted! ~ Sara
Hello, Sara. It's difficult to judge what has happened to your cactus without a photo of it.
Cacti like rather low temperatures during winter, when there's not enough light. Also they need very little to none water during that period.
Did you water yours? In that case it's rotting and it's impossible to save it. Unless it has some healthy parts (depending on a cactus).
But can it be it's just dried up and needs some moisture?
Hi Reda! Thank you for your advice. I did water it a little, and it was near a radiator...I think I might have killed it! I'm going to leave it in the bright-ish window for a bit, and hope for the best. Some bits may be healthy, maybe I'll cut off the other bits. Thanks again for your expert, and quick, advice! I love my cacti, but I'm a novice and amateur cacti collector. ~ Sara
I've just done some Googling, and I think it may actually be a noncacti euphorbia! Seems like I need to get more knowledgable. Off to the library to find some books! ~ Sara
If there are any healthy parts there in a form of "branches" cut them off and put on a sheet of paper or on soil. New roots should emerge eventually.
But if You'd like to cut a piece of a cactus like a salami, it won't work :-)
